22.turkey。Turkey对很多人说来并不陌生，可不就是美国人在一年一度的盛大节日感恩节或者圣诞节享用的火鸡吗？说火鸡愚蠢可一点也不过分。任何饲养火鸡的人都会告诉你：他们必须把彩色玻璃弹子放在火鸡的饲料里，火鸡才会注意到自己的美餐在哪里。起先turkey只是被借用来说笨拙愚蠢的饭桶，但是到了二十世纪二十年代turkey又被转用来指蹩脚的三流戏剧、电影或者文学作品了。
幽默作家Perleman似乎是第一个把turkey这个词作这个用途的人。他把自己创作的一部失败的剧作称为turkey，自我解嘲。下面让我们听个例子。这是个演员在谈刚在百老汇上演的一部戏糟糕透顶，所以才上演两天就停演了。
例句-1：Oh, it was a turkey all right - it was supposed to be a comedy but nobody laughed.
噢，那可真是一出失败的戏。它该是部喜剧，却没一个人发出笑声
这里的turkey是指失败的戏。

但是turkey仍然可以用来指笨蛋。
例句2：You can't believe what a real turkey this guy is!
你简直难以相信这家伙有多不中用！这里的turkey就是“笨蛋”或“不中用的人”的意思。
